Groupe Intervention Video (Montréal): Call to Women Video
Artists, Deadline Dec. 5
Founded in 1975, Groupe Intervention Video (GIV) is an artist run, non-profit centre that
acquires, distributes, exhibits, and produces independent videos directed by women.
The Vault/La voûte is an ongoing GIV program that begins as an open call submission process
on a particular theme. The first of these screenings, held in March 2007, was on the themes of
Archiving and Preservation. The second, held in April 2008, was Concise Terror on ‘horror’
videos. This call for submissions is in two parts. Please see below for details.
Part 1: The Vault – Get Ready (working title) Borrowed from one of the top songs from 1970,
Rare Earth’s single opened the ‘me decade’ with optimistic fervour.
A critical look at works from the ‘first’ decade of sustained video production.
This is the decade in which many key Canadian video centres were founded. We hope to view
seminal videos by key artists, but also look at lesser-known videos.
Years of production: 1970-1980 inclusive
Part 2: The Vault – Me, too!
Works inspired by early video productions and practices. Videos made from 1980 until the
present day that frame key themes and tendencies from the seventies.
Years of production: 1980-2008 inclusive
No entry fees.
Artist fees will be paid.
Deadline: Friday December 5, 2008 5 p.m.
Screening will be held in February-March 2009
Entries must be Canadian independent media artworks
