Call for submissions: Vernissage-danse #142: Ground

Studio 303 is currently seeking artists for the Verni #142 on January 24th at 7pm and 9pm. The evening's theme is Ground (Groundedness, a sense of the earth, to grind a gem from rock, a sense of gravity and rebound, percussive footwork, bare feet or not…).

Three main changes are afoot for the 2008-2009 season :
1) 2 SHOWS : The programming has been expanded to two shows per night (at 7 and 9pm), responding both to popular box office demand, and to artists’ desires to perform more than once.
2) MORE $ ! :This enables us to offer a much-needed flat fee increase from $100 to $250 for live performances.
3) IN THE ROUND : The standard seating configuration this year will be in the round, with a backdrop of south-facing windows. This set-up is more informal and intimate than the traditional white back wall configuration, but it means certain adjustments for the artists : the stage area is wider than it is deep (18 x 42 feet), and artists must enter from behind the audience. If the chosen work is a dance video or includes video projection, this configuration may be reconsidered. Please see the diagram (available at www.studio303.ca/work_verni_e.html) to visualize.

PARAMETERS :
- Live contemporary dance works AND dance videos
- Maximum 15 minutes
- Short works, works-in-progress and excerpts of longer pieces are eligible
- Open to professional artists only
- Artist fee of $250 (2 performances) and $50 for dance videos
- Technical needs must be minimal. A 1-hour technical rehearsal takes place during the day of the show.
- Unfortunately we cannot assist visiting artists with their travel or accommodation expenses at this time, although we may be able to find artists a billet.

Featuring three New York artists and two local artists. The theme is completely open for high caliber work.

Vernissage-danse #145: Games
23 mai 2009 at 7pm & 9pm
Serious play, playful prey, social games, logic games.
Submission Deadline : March 16th

Submissions should include:
- Application form (available at www.studio303.ca/work_verni_e.html)
- A short cover letter addressing how the piece relates to the theme
- A video of the piece, or if unavailable, a sample of recent work (DVD preferred, no edited demo reels).
