Call to Interdisciplinary Artists: Come Out and Protest! Canadian Culture is At Risk!

As you have no doubt heard by now, the Harper government has proposed major cuts to several arts and cultural programs directly affecting the promotion of Canadian arts, and the work of Canadian artists, here and abroad. After having abolished PromArt, the program administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the government then announced it would be cutting the Trade Routes program through the department of Canadian Heritage. Aaron Pollard and Stephen Lawson

“Besides doomed divines, other theatrical spirits conjured up include East Village performance artist Jack Smith, the late Charles Ludlam (founder of NYC's Ridiculous Theatre), even Canada's own Tanya Mars. At its best, camp exposes the questionable nature of gender, class, and race, while also creating empathy for its subjects. This is very much the territory that Lawson and Pollard travel…”

Calls for participation:  for small installations in a filing cabinet
Nova Scotia | | 08/31/2008 - 00:00

We are looking for proposals for a collaborative project. Using an old,
found filing cabinet (possibly from a workshop) in which to exhibit the
work, we are looking for twenty-seven small installations to fill
twenty-seven of the small drawers contained within the cabinet. The
medium(s) utilized are completely up to the artist with an understanding
that all accepted works chosen for the cabinet will inspire twenty-seven,
one minute videos. As curators and collaborators in this exhibition, we
plan to respond by developing a one-minute video in association with each
drawer.
